House Teams
Once a child enters Year R they are assigned a house; Red, Blue, Green or Purple. We ensure that families are in the same house team throughout their time at Althorpe and Keadby. This is reflected in our school uniform and all our polo shirts are available in the house colours.
Being in a house team is a huge part of our ethos 'Together we Grow' We believe our house teams are some of the first communities we will work and succeed within. Our house teams run through everything we do, from behaviour; to sport; to wider curriculum opportunities; to our whole school democracy.
Everyone works towards house points for their team and we believe every single child can contribute! Children can gain points for displaying our positive behaviours, supporting our community, competing well and personal successes.
We are passionate that every child has a chance to represent their team across the term and so there will be a host of House competitions across the school year. These include all our traditional sport competitions but also competitions in STEM, art, poetry, writing, music, maths and many more.
On top of this children showing exceptional behaviour in school will be awarded a Headteacher's award these are worth 50 points each.
Children contributing to their community receive a community award worth 100 house points
Children identified for excellence awards (end of term award for learning behaviours) will receive 200 points for their team.
On top of this, children pursuing their dreams and achieving excellence beyond the school day either taking exams or securing badges or special competitive moments will receive a further 50 points for their house.
At the end of each term, the winning house team chooses a team rewarded to enjoy together. This could be a party, a afternoon tea, a movie afternoon.
Finally at the end of the year each house holds its own celebration and the winning house will win a trip to bowling.
Of course a team is nothing without a leader. Our House Captains play a very important role in school life. They are the leaders of their house and they are voted for by the members of their house.
At the end of Year 5 any interested pupils write a campaign speech. This is then delivered in front of their whole house who then vote on who will be the next captains. There are two captains per team.
House captains play a vital role representing their house. They motivate and challenge their team, celebrate their victories, support through their hard days, ensure that all pupils get a chance to represent and work with other leaders within the school to support learning, motivate younger members and inspire our future leaders.
Of course such a special job comes with a special uniform. You will spot our House Captains as successful candidates are awarded with a very special uniform that they wear each day. You can't miss them!
This year for the first time, house captains will host their own House assemblies - inspiring children to do their best.
